Local SEO in Dubai comes down to three things you control: an accurate Google Business Profile, a website that confirms the same facts, and a steady flow of genuine reviews. No one can promise you a ranking, and Google says there is no way to pay for a better local position. What you can do is make your business easy for Google, and for the AI assistants that build on search, to understand and trust.
How Google decides who appears locally
Google says local results are based mainly on three factors:
- Relevance: how well your profile matches what someone searched for. Complete, detailed information helps.
- Distance: how far you are from the person searching. If they don't share a location, Google uses what it knows about where they are.
- Prominence: how well known you are. Google says this draws on information such as links to your business from other websites and how many reviews you have.
You can't move your office closer to every customer, so the work goes into relevance and prominence. Google's own advice starts with the basics: it says businesses with complete and accurate information are more likely to show up in local results. A polished website does not make up for a half-finished profile.
Set up your Google Business Profile properly
The essentials are below; our guide to ranking on Google Maps in Dubai goes deeper on categories, verification and reviews.
- Check that you're eligible. A profile needs a location customers can visit, or a business that travels to its customers. A mailing address where you don't actually operate isn't eligible, a "virtual" office counts only if it is staffed during business hours, and an office in a co-working space needs clear signage. If your licence address is a flexi-desk, check it against these rules before you list it; our guide to Ejari, flexi-desks and office requirements covers the licence side.
- Service-area businesses, such as cleaning companies or movers that go to their clients, should hide their address and set a service area instead.
- Use your real-world name. The name must match your signage, website and stationery. Adding keywords, as in "Best Business Setup Dubai", breaks Google's guidelines. If the name isn't protected yet, read our guide to registering a trademark in the UAE.
- Choose the fewest categories that describe your core business. Google's test is "this business is a", not "this business has a". Pick the primary category with particular care.
- Complete everything else: opening hours, including special hours for Ramadan and public holidays, phone number, website link, services, attributes and real photos.
- One profile per location. Each branch gets its own profile, and branches share the same business name.
Reviews: ask everyone, reward no one
Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help your local ranking, and they shape whether people call you at all. The rules for getting them are strict:
- No incentives. No discounts, free services or payments for a review, and nothing in return for changing or removing a negative one.
- No filtering. Asking only happy customers to review you is not allowed. Ask everyone.
- No reviews from your side. Reviews from current or former employees, or anyone with a conflict of interest, are prohibited, as are reviews posted from several accounts by one person.
- No pressure. Don't push people to review you on your premises, and don't tell them what to write.
Reply to reviews, including the bad ones, briefly and without personal details. A calm answer to a one-star review is read by every future customer who finds it.
Make your website back up the profile
Your Business Profile links to your website, and both should tell the same story.
- One page for each real location. If you have two offices, give each a page with its address, phone number, hours, map and what happens there. Google's spam policies treat pages aimed at regions or cities that funnel visitors to one page as doorway abuse, so don't create a page for every district you would like to rank in.
- Identical details everywhere. Write your business name, address and phone number (NAP) the same way on your site, your profile and every listing. International directories often ask for a postcode, so decide once how you will write a Dubai address (for example building, street, area and P.O. Box) and stick to it.
- Structured data. Mark up each location with LocalBusiness structured data, or a more specific type. Name and address are required; coordinates, opening hours, phone number and URL are recommended. The markup must match what is visible on the page, and it helps Google understand you without guaranteeing any special display.
- Don't build around FAQ rich results. Google stopped showing them in Search in May 2026.
- Service pages that answer questions. Each one should say what you do, for whom, where, and what it involves, in plain sentences. If your current site makes that hard to maintain, treat rebuilding the website as part of the SEO work, not a separate project.
English and Arabic searches
Your customers may search in English, in Arabic, or in both, and the words they use differ by language. Research keywords separately for each language in Search Console and Keyword Planner rather than translating your English list, and give Arabic searchers proper Arabic pages. Our guide to building a bilingual Arabic and English website covers the technical side, from /ar URLs to hreflang.
Keep the facts identical across both versions. An address, phone number or opening time that differs between your English and Arabic pages undermines both.
Citations, mentions and links
Prominence is partly about what the rest of the web says about you, and Google names links from other websites as one of its signals. Places worth being listed and linked:
- business directories your customers actually use, with exactly the same details as your profile,
- Apple Maps and Bing Maps, which show business listings too, so check what they say about you,
- trade associations, chambers of commerce and partner websites, and
- local and industry media, when you have something worth saying.
Skip bulk directory submissions and paid link schemes. They add risk, not trust.
How AI assistants choose which businesses to mention
AI answers don't come from a separate index you can buy your way into, and our guide to AI search optimisation covers what you can influence. They are built on pages that crawlers can reach:
- Google AI Overviews and AI Mode. Google says there are no additional requirements: a page must be indexed and eligible to show a snippet, and normal SEO best practice applies. Google's Gemini apps can also ground answers in content from the Google Search index.
- ChatGPT search finds websites through OpenAI's OAI-SearchBot. If robots.txt blocks it, your pages won't appear in ChatGPT's search answers. Blocking GPTBot, which collects training data, is a separate choice.
- Perplexity uses PerplexityBot to surface and link websites, and recommends allowing it in robots.txt.
So check robots.txt, your CDN and your hosting firewall first: a security setting that blocks crawlers keeps you out without any warning. Google says you don't need special AI text files or extra schema for its AI features. Some sites, ours included, publish an llms.txt summary anyway; treat it as optional.
What makes a page quotable is what makes it useful to a customer: the answer stated plainly near the top, key facts such as areas served, hours and licences written as text rather than inside images, and the same facts on your site, your profile and everywhere else. Search Console's Performance report includes traffic from AI Overviews and AI Mode under the Web search type, so you can see whether it's working.
If you want an honest audit of your profile and site, our marketing and growth team can do one. We won't promise rankings; we will show you what's in the way.
